Dear Vashon Loop Readers and Substack Subscribers,
Two months ago, we had just wrapped up our final edits and a member of the Editorial Team texted the rest of us to say, “This is our best issue yet!” Last month, it happened again. This month (or last week), as we put the finishing touches on our May Issue of The Vashon Loop, there was literal joy in the room.
That’s surprising. Surely, there must be an end to our upward learning curve? Nothing can get better forever. Right? Or, maybe it can? The Vashon Loop isn’t comprised of the thoughts and ideas of its five owners. Every month, our list of contributors is long and changing! Until we’ve heard from all 10,700+ islanders, there’s a plausible chance that, “Yes, dear readers, the Vashon Loop may indeed get better every month.”
Of course, we’re human and the world is what it is - so, we’re sure to have dips and bumps and lows in our future. Indeed, we’re preparing for a challenging future and likely increases in printing costs! But for now, we are all very proud and excited to share with you our awesome May Issue — two full days early.
This preview is being sent to everyone - this month - to make sure that all of our subscribers (there has been a flurry of newbies this past week) get to enjoy seeing our paper a few days early! A perk usually reserved for our “Voluntarily Paying Readers,” because we truly and honestly need the community that we serve…to return the favor.
To that end, we are thrilled to announce that the awesome owners of Café Luna have invited us to set up a “Pay What You Want” box at their counter! Apparently, several times a day, people drop a Loop on the counter and ask, “How much do I owe you for The Loop?”
The new answer?
“Pay what you want, and on behalf of the hard-working Loop Editorial Team - thank you!”
